Langtang region lies directly north of the Kathmandu valley just south of Tibetan border. This is the closest Himalayan trekking destination from Kathmandu. This is third popular trekking destination in Nepal. All the trekking routs in this region are better managed by Langtang national Park office. Langtang National Park was established in 1976 to conserve the unique flora and fauna of the region. The area extends 1710 sq. km.

Day 1
Kathmandu to Syabru Bensi (1450m.) Driving approx 9 hrs by public coach and 7 hours by private vehicle (costs extra). Accommodation provided at lodge.
Day 2
Syabru Bensi to Lama Hotel (2383m.) Trek 6 to 7 hours along the river valley or Tamang village. Accommodation provided at lodge.
Day 3
Lama Hotel to Langtang Village: (3541m.) trek about 5 to 6 hours through pine forest at the beginning few hours and last few hours is a desert area. Accommodation provided at lodge.
Day 4
Langtang Village to Kyangjing Gompa (3700m.): Trek about 3 to 4 hours thorough surrounding Himalaya. Accommodation provided at lodge.
Day 5
A day Rest to explore the area: excursion to Kyangjing Ri and Cherkori for the great view of the region.
Day 6
Kyangjing Gompa to Lama Hotel: Trekking route is same as previous but all the way descends. Trek about 5 hours.
Day 7
Lama Hotel to Syabru Gaun: Trek about 6 hours. Accommodation provided at lodge.
Day 8
Syabru Gaun to Dhunche (1950m): Trek about 5 hours along the Rhododendron forest with full of Himalayan views whole day.
Day 9
Dhunche to Kathmandu: Driving about 8 hours by public bus or we could drive by private land cruiser (costs extra).

The langtang valley is surrounded by high peaks of great appeal. It has become famous trekking region since the British mountaineer Bill Tilman described it as the most beautiful valley in the world. The highest peak in this area is Shisapangma or Gosaithan 8013m in Tibet. The langtang valley is also known as the treasure house of Alpine plants. The whole valley is cover with flowers during the summer. The region is inhabited by Tamang and Sherpa people with their unique tradition and culture in this modern time.

The best time for Langtang valley trek is September through May but autumn is also the best time to trek in Langtang and Helambu region. Between Langtang and Helambu, we come across the Hindus holy lake Gosain kunda also known as frozen lake. The Gosain kunda Lake attracts thousands of Hindu pilgrims in month of September. The Langtang national park is also well known for its populations of red panda, one of the rare animals on the planet. Himalayan black bear, snow leopard, wild dog, ghoral, musk deer, Himalayan thar and more than 250 species of birds can be found in this region.

Langtang valley trek offers a choice of moderate to more difficult trekking routes with duration ranging from 7 days to 3 weeks. The most famous trekking routes includes Langtang Valley trek, Langtan Gosain kunda trek, Gosainkunda Helambu trek, helambu trek and a more demanding one called Ganjala pass trek. The local lodges operate the services year round except during the peak winter if the trails are blocked.

The Langtang valley is not only popular for trekkers but it is also popular among mountaineers. Langtang Ri, Dorje Lakpa, Langtang Lirung, Langsisa Ri and Yala peak are the popular mountain climbing destination. The gateway city for trekking and climbing in Langtang region is either Dhunche or Syabru Bensi.
